Referencing refresher

Referencing refresher: emerging issues for editors

Presented on: Monday 20 February 2017
Presenter: Dr Stephen White, Geological Survey of Western Australia

Description

This meeting of the Editors WA branch of IPEd reviewed referencing styles and conventions, and examined emerging issues for editors to be aware of. The issues arise mainly from the increasing need for authors to reliably reference sources on the Internet.

The second part of the evening used examples from Stephen’s work environment. Digital sources include, but are not restricted to:
●  Websites
●  PDFs and other document types hosted online
●  Conference proceedings
●  Digital data – data repositories and metadata

A key consideration is that these digital sources may be ephemeral or dynamic and particular care might be needed to ensure the cited information or publication can be located in future.
