WA STYLE – Whatever happened to the Style manual?

15 May, 2017

Editors WA branch meeting

Monday 15 May 2017
6:15 for 6:30 pm start; finish by 8:30 pm
The Warehouse Café, 221 Onslow Road, Shenton Park, WA 6008
(two doors down from Petite Mort restaurant)

So you thought the editor’s ‘bible’, the Style manual (sixth edition, 2002), was dead and gone already? Not so. There are rumblings in the East and plans afoot for a seventh edition — at last! What’s actually going on? Your guide at our general meeting on Monday 15 May 2017 will be Editors WA committee member Ilsa Sharp, who will update you on the current status of this important national reference text, whose key stakeholders include Government, editors, publishers, academics, teachers, schools and colleges, among many others. A Professional Member of IPEd, Ilsa is the WA representative on the IPEd national steering committee overseeing matters concerning the proposed seventh edition of the Style manual. At this EdsWA general meeting, you will also get your chance to communicate to the steering committee your own ideas for the new-look seventh-edition Style manual, the first digital/internet-era edition, and also to voice your likes/dislikes when reviewing the existing sixth edition – that covers layout and display, indexing, relevance, content, the lot. If time allows, we will also break up into small-group discussions to generate some creative brain-storming. It should get lively! Book your place now for a real Professional Development opportunity.

Light refreshments with tea and coffee will be provided.

Bookings are essential. Members $7.00; non-members $12.00
