A wide range of services are available to organisations and individuals seeking the assistance of an editor. From editing poetry anthologies to the project management of annual reports, the diverse skills and experience of our members means that you will be able to find the ideal editor for any project.
Not all editors undertake the same kind of work, and you should aim to match your requirements to the services editors offer when you are searching for someone to hire, or entering into negotiations about the type of work done. The time required and the cost are often important factors in deciding who to hire. Please take a look at the information on understanding quotes and rates for external clients wanting to hire editors.
Searching for an editor
As of January 2017, the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd), of which Editors WA is your local branch, has set up a national Editors Directory. That directory lists editors in IPEd’s Professional membership category and provides a profile from which you can gauge if someone’s field of editing expertise matches the work you want done. You can then contact that person for a quote.
Go to http://iped-editors.org/Find_an_editor.aspx to search the IPEd Editors Directory for an editor to undertake your work. That editor may be in Western Australia, or in another state.
Editors WA also maintains a register of editors in Western Australia. You can also search here for someone to provide a quote for work you would like done. This WA register will run in parallel with the national Editors Directory until June 2017, after which the WA register will be closed and all online searches for editing services will be handled through the national directory.
Branch members can also assist by offering to present training programs to improve written communication skills. Please contact the president if you are interested in providing some training.
We encourage clients to contact the president with any queries or requests for further advice regarding editors and editing.
