SoEWA–IPEd transition 2016: 3rd ballot results

The results of the 3rd Society of Editors (WA) – IPEd transition ballot have been tallied. Members of the Society have voted by a substantial margin to approve the resolution that the Society shall wind up.

Total 62
Survey answers Number Percent
YES, I agree to the special resolution 60 96.8
NO, I reject the special resolution 2 3.2

This is a very pleasing turn out. More details can be viewed in surveysummary_all-results_final_11232016 derived directly from an export of data out of SurveyMonkey.

Once winding up of the Society is effected, this leaves Editors WA – as the branch of IPEd succeeding the Society – to represent, advocate for and support the interests of editors in Western Australia.

I would like to personally thank everyone who has participated in the process, from its beginnings in 2013–14 up to now, and into the future. Despite many uncertainties, doubts, fears, glitches and a multitude of considerations to be digested, it’s heartening to see such a large majority of members embracing the change.

It has not been easy and it has never been the only option; Canberra Society of Editors remains an independent organisation in that territory. Our task now is to make the most of the opportunities the national membership structure offers editors in Western Australia. Please support your branch.

Christmas on the foreshore

Join us for some informal networking and seasonal fun on Sunday December 2 at 5 pm, at the South Perth foreshore.

We’ll meet at the Narrows end of Sir James Mitchell Park, adjacent to the car park that’s at the end of South Perth Esplanade. There are BBQs and toilet facilities and plenty of shade. Bring along your picnic or BBQ food and we will supply snacks, wine, soft drink and games! (A folding chair might also be a good idea.)

RSVP to Tanya Marwood by Saturday Dec 1.

Christmas celebration 2011

Thanks to everyone who came along to our Indian Christmas dinner at the Buddha Bar to celebrate the end of the year for the Society. We had secret santa pressies and if you weren’t happy you could swap with one you liked, Jan organised some fabulous quizzes, and we consumed a delicious banquet under the ever-watchful eye of an enormous Buddha. All to the music of Whitney Houston and Madonna!

We look forward to seeing you all next year. We won’t have a normal networking session in February but we will be having a workshop on Saturday 18 February which we’ll tell you about later. Then it’s our AGM on 6 March where we elect/re-elect the office bearers and hopefully welcome some new hands in the new year.

The committee wishes all our members a very safe, happy and productive Christmas and new year holiday!
